With Qteq expanding its workforce to meet increasing demand and incorporate the NRMSA team, a number of significant appointments have been made recently while other personnel have had slight title changes.

Former NRMSA managing director Dr Tim Hopper has been named as Qteq’s Chief Technology Officer. Tim was a Fulbright Scholar during his PhD studies and earned his doctorate in magnetic resonance imaging prior to moving into the oil and gas industry where he worked for 10 years, including stints as wireline field engineer, senior research scientist, project manager (LWD NMR) and petro-physicist. Prior to starting NMR Services Australia Pty Ltd, Tim worked for an African exploration company as its principal petro-physicist. From 2013 until its sale, he successfully steered NMR Services Australia to more than 70% revenue growth year-on-year. That company designed, manufactured and supported wireline BMR tools across five continents, spanning all minerals and water markets. Tim has 19 patents to his name and has published more than a dozen technical papers. His passion is identifying new technologies and applying them outside of their normal realms. Tim’s wide experience enables him to quickly identify these technological and engineering opportunities.

Qteq has appointed Quentin Morgan as its Chief Innovation Officer. Quentin has spent 35 years working for a number of major international oil and gas service companies, in ostensibly technical roles, involving permanent secondments to six continents. Following a number of years in various field positions, Quentin spent 17 years with British firm Expro establishing new geomarkets. In his last four years with the company, he established an R&D team to develop new technologies. Quentin then joined Weatherford in 2002, where he held positions as region product line manager for intelligent completions and sandface completions. His work for this company culminated in his appointment as technical director for subsurface engineering. Quentin was appointed chief technology officer of Qteq’s forerunner in 2011. He holds an honours degree in Nuclear Physics and a Masters in Petroleum Engineering.

Perth-based mining and corporate governance specialist Mark Donovan has been appointed to the Qteq Board as Non-Executive Director. Mark has 22 years’ experience in the minerals industry and before then worked for more than 10 years as a lawyer and partner in a Perth legal firm where he specialised in criminal and commercial litigation. After moving into the minerals field, Mark has held senior legal and managerial roles with WMC Resources and BHP Billiton, most recently as its head of corporate affairs for BHP Billiton Iron Ore. Mark has a thorough understanding of the industry across legal, risk, governance, communications and government affairs. Mark has extensive experience in commercial and contractual negotiations and has led multi-disciplinary teams in a broad range of areas, from exploration to negotiating native title agreements and development agreements with state governments.

Qteq has appointed Damian Element as its Chief Financial Officer. Damian has 20 years’ experience in corporate finance, governance and commercial business management. He has held senior roles at Woolworths and AAPT, as well as group CFO roles for a number of high-growth global ASX-listed, public and private companies in the services and technology sectors. Damian specialises in complex corporate actions such as corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, ASX listing, international business, commercial risk management and governance. Known for his commercial acumen, pragmatism and leadership, Damian is passionate about commercialising technology and building profitable businesses. He holds graduate and post-graduate qualifications from Macquarie University, and is a graduate of both CPA Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
